4 bedroom house for $300,000? Not in Coconut Grove!

I saw this article in the New York Times and it was interesting to see what you get for $300,000 in different towns across the country.

- Banner Elk, North Carolina: 2 bedroom, 2 bath cottage with 1,499 square feet living space. Price per square foot is $219.00. Taxes are $505 a month!! Banner Elk is a historic downtown area with boutiques and restaraunts. The house is located in the mountains in a residential enclave. Sounds similar to Coconut Grove, only smaller.
- New Orleans, Lousiana: 1 bedroom, 1.5 bath with 856 square feet of living space. Price per square foot is $362.00. The apartment is in a renovated warehouse with 33 units. No taxes, the building qualifies for a 5 year tax abatement. Monthly maintenance fee is $265.00.
- Bend, Oregon: 4 bedroom, 3 bath house with 2,186 square feet of living space. Price per square feet is $148.00. Taxes are $2,794 a year. The small town offers biking in summer and skiing in winter. Amenities include a gas fireplace, 2 car garage, walk in closet and french doors.
